Sound Map of Zhejiang Culture
By Zhejiang Library | December 20, 2021

In order to better promote reading, innovate the reading methods, present and inherit the rich cultural heritage of Zhejiang, Zhejiang Library launched the "Sound Map of Zhejiang Culture" project, which focuses on recording Zhejiang culture, with audio reading as the main form and recitation, singing, dancing, musical instrument performance as a supplement, to show the beautiful transformation of poetry, painting and landscape in Zhejiang.

The "Sound Map of Zhejiang Culture" project takes the region as the section, planning the "Road of Tang Poetry in East Zhejiang", "Road of Tang Poetry in Qiantang River", "Oujiang River Landscape Poetry Road" and "Zhejiang Section of China Grand Canal Cultural Belt Beijing-Hangzhou" as four main "Poetry Roads", which run through eastern, western, southern, northern and central Zhejiang and link up the cultural and natural landscapes of many regions, adding a unique flavor of landscape and humanity to Zhejiang. The project deeply excavates the representative works of cultural celebrities from all over Zhejiang Province and the poetry works produced in the four poetry roads and organizes recitations, themed poetry sessions or produces electronic audiobooks for readers to appreciate. At the same time, readers are encouraged to visit cultural landmarks, or to participate poetry online competitions to create poetry works by themselves, so that they would fall in love with Zhejiang stories, as well as reading, which could help to inherit the cultural context of Zhejiang and to promote the harmonious relationship between man and nature.

ROAD I  Road of Tang Poetry in East Zhejiang

The Road of Tang Poetry in East Zhejiang takes the canal in eastern Zhejiang- Cao'e River-Jiao River as the main line, covering Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Taizhou and Zhoushan. It starts from Qiantang River, passing through the ancient city of Shaoxing, from Jinghu to the south, walking along the Cao'e river, entering Mingxi in eastern Zhejiang, and then it goes up the river, passing through Wojiang and Tianmu in Xinchang, to the Liang Shi Waterfall in Tiantai Mountain. This is a road of literature, landscape and the way on the road of Tang poetry in East Zhejiang, poets wrote more than 1500 excellent poems.

The Oujiang River Landscape Poetry Road takes Oujiang-Daxi-Longquan River as the main line and Oujiang River as the link, which runs through the entire southern Zhejiang region. Su Shi, litterateur of the Song Dynasty(960-1127), once lamented, "If I can be the prefect for as long as Xie Lingyun in Yongjia, I will definitely be able to make Xingzhou's landscape as beautiful as Yongjia." Starting with Xie Lingyun, the originator of Chinese landscape poetry, lots of poems have been left behind by scholars of all ages.

ROAD IV  Zhejiang Section of China Grand Canal Cultural Belt Beijing-Hangzhou

The Zhejiang Section of China Grand Canal Cultural Belt Beijing-Hangzhou takes the Grand Canal World Cultural Heritage as its core, including the counties and cities along the canal in Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing and Ningbo. This is not only a passage for Zhejiang to go northward in history, but also the main passage for scholars from all over the country to enter Zhejiang. For example, Tangqi Town, in Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, located at the southernmost end of the Beijing-Hangzhou canal, is one of the ten famous towns in the south of the Yangtze river. It is a "beautiful view in the south of the Yangtze river", described by Feng Zikai, originator of Chinese modern comics. Yuhang has wild mountain villages, rural villages and graceful water villages, which are full of poetic flavor. Here’s also 5,000 years of Liangzhu culture, 2,000 years of canal culture and more than 1,200 years of Zen and the Art of Tea in Jingshan County. Culture and history complement each other.
