Zhejiang Library's Grand Move ▏First Journey of Relocation to Zhijiang Library
By Zhejiang Library | July 10, 2023

In early 2023, Zhejiang Library had already started preparations for its relocation to the Zhijiang Branch. These preparations involved activities such as counting, unshelving and packing. Based on the advance plan, more than 3.9 million items would be transported from Shuguang Road site to the new Zhijiang site, including general books, ancient books and special collections.

On June 25 and 26, a total of 5,262 packages, which comprised nearly 200,000 books, were meticulously loaded, including 2,277 parcels of Chinese literary books, amounting to nearly 70,000 copies; 1,169 packages of children's books, totaling over 110,000 copies; 573 packages of red and legal literature, making up almost 20,000 copies. In the coming days the relocation of other collections will continue to be carried out.

Hu Hairong, deputy secretary of the party committee and deputy director (presiding) of Zhejiang Library, welcomed and "unpacked" the first batch of new books that arrived!

The packaging and shelving of books require both the labor and expertise of librarians to ensure easy accessibility for readers. The process of transferring books from parcels to shelves demands significant physical strength, not to mention the dust flying around.

“Each book has its life and soul, eventually finding its way to someone who truly loves it from the heart.” Books are not only intellectual treats but also bear the romantic memories of the readers who have ever delved into their pages. The Zhijiang Branch of Zhejiang Library will be open to readers soon. We are looking forward to meet more readers in this new library and assist them in creating and discovering their own cherished reading memories.
