On the afternoon of April 7th, Ye Jing, Deputy Director General of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, conducted an investigation at the construction sites of new Zhejiang Library building in Zhijiang, accompanied by Hu Hairong, Deputy Director of Zhejiang Library.
Director Ye inspected the progress of the building layout and appreciated the project's achievements. During the inspection, he emphasized four requirements: first, the construction of the building should follow a scientific approach and adhere to the planned schedule. Second, the aesthetic design of the building should fully reflect the characteristics of the Library and Zhejiang culture. Third, the library should focus on digitization and intelligent development to become a smart library. Forth, safety must be a top priority throughout the construction process. Zhejiang Library should take the construction of the new library building as an opportunity to improve the ability and the level of service and to build a modern public library which would become a benchmark in China.

Zhijiang Cultural Center is the largest modern cultural complex in the province, integrating nature, humanities, art and ecology as a whole. The complex is mainly consist of the new Zhejiang Library, the new Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Zhejiang Museum of Literature and other supporting facilities.
The new building area of Zhijiang library is about 85, 000 square meters, with two floors underground and nine above. The basement second floor is mainly parking lot, book repositories and equipment rooms; the basement first floor is mainly multi-functional lecture halls and exhibition halls; the first to sixth floors are various theme libraries, and the seventh to ninth floors are office spaces. In the middle of 2023, the new building will start its trial operation as the main library, focusing on humanities, social sciences and art literature. As an important knowledge and information hub and regional library network center, Zhijiang library will be a new landmark in the province.

With the development of such technology as artificial intelligence, Zhejiang library adjusts itself in the relearning environment of the society and extends its educational function to satisfy the requests of social developments. In that case, the role of library would become more essential in the changing educational systems.
During the construction of the new library building, other branches of Zhejiang Library would also be rebuilt into libraries with various functions and themes by taking their locations and historical heritage into consideration.
