By Zhejiang Library | September 23, 2021
To use a computer, blind people must first learn to use screen-reading software. The screen reading software is like an intermediary. It reads the text on the computer screen aloud by voice so that the blind can know his operation interface and proceed to the next step.

On September 1st, Zhejiang Library's 2021 computer training for visually impaired readers was held as scheduled. After synthesizing the needs and suggestions of readers, the training takes "striving for screen reading" as an example to teach the visually impaired how to operate under the new windows system, how to use OCR to obtain image content, and to understand the desktop software supported by the screen reading software, common computer troubleshooting and basic operation of advanced audio player foobar2000. The training lasted for four days. A total of 100 visually impaired persons participated in the training online.

This training invites Liu Yu, a computer enthusiast and visually impaired reader, as the lecturer. He explained in detail the keyboard navigation and mouse navigation operations that are commonly used in "Zhengdu Screen Reading", as well as how to browse the web and word processing.

Considering that the learning and entertainment of the visually impaired are inseparable from hearing, this computer training also added the basic operation of the music player foobar2000.

According to the feedback of the visually impaired students, the computer training will use computers as the medium to gradually expand more application software, such as office software, audio editing software, etc., to provide assistance for the diversified employment  and the improvement of information literacy of the visually impaired.
