From July 30 to 31, 2018, a two-day volunteer training course for children's reading promotion was held in Wenzhou Children's Library. The training was hosted by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, undertaken by Zhejiang Library and organized by Wenzhou Children's Library. The attendees of the opening ceremony included Chu Shuqing, director of Zhejiang Library, Liu Shenggao, deputy director of Wenzhou Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, TV, Press and Publication, Hu Dong, director of Zhejiang Library Office, Xie Beini, director of Zhejiang Library's Activity Department, Jin Dun, director of Wenzhou Children's Library, and He Xiaoling, deputy director of Public Culture Department of Wenzhou Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, TV, Press and Publication.
Sun Huiyang, an early childhood reading practitioner, distinguished reading promoter and children’s book translator, gave a speech on “From Reading Maps to Common Reading” to propose the idea of “reading for love”, and to promote the development of “common reading” between parents and children. Pan Fang, director of the Activity Promotion Department of Wenzhou Children's Library, shared her frontline experience in children's reading promotion through a lecture entitled “Engaging in Reading and Implementing Promotion”. Tang Tang, a fairy tale writer and vice chairman of Zhejiang Writers Association, gave a speech on “Fairy Tale Forever”. Liu Zidan, a librarian of Wenzhou Children's Library, shared her practical thoughts on the case of “Xinyu Youth Film Academy”. Guo Xiaoying, associate professor of Minjiang Normal College and secretary general of the Straits Children's Reading Research Center, shared real cases of children's libraries based on the survey data of the status quo of children's reading.
The training aimed to provide children reading guidance skills, enhance initiative and sense of responsibility for children's reading promotion, and expand the volunteer team for children's reading promotion. Five lectures were arranged in two days, and domestic research experts on children's reading and well-known reading promoters were invited to give lectures. Outstanding librarians of Wenzhou Children’s Library also shared their practical experience in reading activities. A total of more than 80 key employees from all libraries of Zhejiang Province and volunteers who were enthusiastic about reading promotion among minors participated in the training.
