On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the inaugural session of the 3rd term of Zhejiang Library Trustee convened at the Zhijiang main Library. The trustee board comprises a total of 13 members, with Eric Jing, Chairman and CEO of Ant Group serving as its president, while Luo Weidong, member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), vice-chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of China Democratic League and the Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities and Social Sciences of Zhejiang University, acting as the vice-president.
Chen Guangsheng, Director of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism highly appreciated the iconic achievements made by the second trustee, including promoting the social cooperation in the public libraries, particularly the cooperation among Zhejiang Library, Ant Group and Xizi UHC in the areas of public services, the production of cultural and creative products as well as digital collection, the establishment of new culture places and others.
Chen stressed that the third trustee primarily needs to find the solution to public librarianship challenges by fully using their professional expertise and resources, pay attention to the study of strategic and foresighted issues about the public library development, and promote the effectiveness of library services, productions and innovations. Second, the trustee should help the public libraries in their reading promotion by establishing the brands, scenarios and models of public library services. Finally, the requirements of the readers should be met through providing specialized and different public services.
The establishment of the first Zhejiang Library Trustee in 2015 marked a significant improvement in the governance system with the decision-making supervision of the trustees, strengthened the scientific and standardized decision-making management and supervision, and effectively enhanced the competent governance and the service efficiency of public libraries. The council had given full play to its own professional advantages, synergistic advantages and social influence to carry out many cross-border cooperations with Zhejiang Library, which expanded the public's participation in public cultural undertakings, improved the operation and management level of the Library, and realized the various possibilities for social forces to participate in the library construction.
In the afternoon, the first meeting was held in the Zhijiang Main Library. Hu Hairong, Director of Zhejiang Library, hosted the meeting and eleven trustees attended.
During the meeting, Hu represented the 2023 work summary and the work plan of 2024. The head of the finance department then gave a report detailing the budget of the Library in 2024. The trustee carefully reviewed the reports, expressing full appreciation for the accomplishments of Zhejiang Library in 2023, and approved the work plan and the budget report in principle.
Hu also pointed out that Zhejiang Library had fully played its role as the leading institution among libraries in Zhejiang province in 2023, taking the construction of the new Zhijiang Library as an opportunity to promote the development of public libraries across the province.
Looking forward to 2024, Zhejiang Library aims to further enhance its impact by emphasizing the preservation of humanistic heritage and contributing to the ongoing evolution of modern Chinese civilization.
