The Reminiscent Tastes of Ningbo - the Most Missed Tastes on the Tip of the Tongue

From February 16th to March 3rd, 2019, “The Reminiscent Tastes of Ningbo - The Most Missed Tastes on the Tip of the Tongue” was exhibited in the exhibition hall on the first floor of Zhejiang Library.

On November 8th, 2018, in the finals of the 2018 Provincial Public Library Exhibition Creative Planning Competition hosted by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Zhejiang Library, each participating team demonstrated exhibitions with cultural characteristics, novel topics and rich forms themed “Cultural Zhejiang”. After a tense competition, the “Ningbo Reminiscent Tastes” well planned by the Ningbo Library won the second prize of the Exhibition Creative Planning Competition and also the Most Popular Award.

Now the exhibition is exhibited in the Zhejiang Library. The exhibition introduces Ningbo’s traditional dishes and snacks from four aspects: the taste of the four seasons, the traditional taste, the taste of the market, the nostalgic taste and the taste of leisure to show the culture behind and reflect the “city and life” of Ningbo people. The old tastes of Ningbo remind the readers of the memory of Ningbo and are reminiscent of the most missed taste on the tip of the tongue.

In the exhibition, a gourmet cartoon created by Ma Lianfei, a native illustrator of Ningbo, will also be unveiled. A middle-aged man who sold jalapeno ice on the bicycle, the scene of people making the New Year’cake, the maltose painting most popular among the children, the bowl of hot bean curd jelly that is indispensable for breakfast, the scene of crowded customers in the time-honored brand Gangyagou, the dried fish made by grandmother.... every picture will attract you into the world of that time.

The exhibition will last till March 3. During the exhibition, we have also held activities such as lantern riddles and sweet dumplings making to celebrate the Lantern Festival and feel the old tastes of Ningbo.
