Zhejiang library held the Symposium on the Construction and Development of New Library

In an effort to implement the provincial committee and government's strategic deployment of "empowering the province by culture", to boost the construction of new library and to promote the overall developmental level of Zhejiang Library undertaking, on the afternoon of April 1st, Zhejiang Library held the Symposium on the Construction and Development of New Library.

The symposium was chaired by Mr. Chu Shuqing, the director of Zhejiang Library.

The participants in this symposium are as follows: Zhou Heping, the former vice minister of Ministry of Culture and the Director of The National Library of China, Wu Weici, the former vice president of The Library Society of China, the Director of Academic Committee, the senior professor of the Department of Information Management of Peking University, Wu Jianzhong, the vice president of The Library Society of China and the Director of Academic Committee, the Director of University of Macau Library, the former Director of Shanghai Library and the municipal government counselor, Zhu Qiang, the former vice president of The Library Society of China and the Director of Peking University Library, Ni Xiaojian, the former vice president of The Library Society of China, the Director of Capital Library of China, Chen Chao, the Director of Shanghai Library, Liu Honghui, the Director of Guangzhou Municipal Zhongshan Library, Zhou Jianwen, the Chief of The Division of Social Culture of Department of Culture Jiangxi Province, the former Director of The library of Jiangxi Province, Ni Wei, the Chief of The Division of Public Culture of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, the leadership lineup of Zhejiang Library, the members of Academic Committee of Zhejiang Province Society for Library Science, the council members of The Council of Zhejiang Library, the Directors of libraries in different regions and the cadres above the middle management of Zhejiang Library.

Ye Jing, the Deputy Director-General of the Provincial Department of Culture also attended the symposium and made a summary statement.

The appointment ceremony for specially-appointed experts of Zhejiang Library was held in the symposium, Ye Jing issued Letter of Appointments to five senior experts: Zhou Heping, Wu Weici, Wu Jianzhong, Ni Xiaojian and Zhu Qiang.

 

 

 

 

In the speech, Ye Jing introduced the development direction of the public libraries of the whole province for the next phase: firstly, a top-level design should be carried out for Zhejiang Library, and efforts should be paid to construct the provincial-level public libraries with national advanced level; secondly, Zhejiang Library should be created into a featured brand, its historical and cultural foundation and values should be further explored, its unique features should be highlighted, its influences extended so that Zhejiang Library could be established into an exemplar for its own kinds; thirdly, the innovative development of libraries' undertaking should be boosted, the central-branch library system should be deepened, the legal person governance structural reform boosted and Zhejiang Wisdom & Culture Cloud be created; fourthly, social force should be guided to participate in the building of libraries, and by giving full play to Wenzhou exemplary role in terms of its "City Libraries", we could boost the gridding of library service, the equalization of cultural service; fifthly, more efforts should be paid to popularize the nationwide reading, and by depending on the National Reading Day of Zhejiang Province and World Reading Day, etc., we could carry out informative promotional activities for reading in multitudes of forms, so that the library could become an appealing place for more people.

The experts in the symposium carried out discussions on the planning of the construction of new library and the future development strategy of provincial libraries. Zhou Heping pointed out that the construction of new library for Zhejiang Library should give full consideration to the background of construction and should base itself on the rich historical and cultural foundation of Zhejiang as well as on Zhejiang's leading role in the development of various undertakings. Moreover, its exemplary role should be highlighted and meanwhile, the unique styles of Zhejiang should be fully embodied. Wu Weici emphasized that we should focus our efforts on constructing the new library featuring gridding, intelligence and openness, and in the design, the key functions should be highlighted. Wu Jianzhong noted that we should put forward a theoretical system based on Zhejiang, and lay emphasis on spatial continuity in the construction of new library, attach importance to the relevance of four library rooms and embody the openness. Zhu Qiang suggested that we should further improve the design of the new library by relying on the philosophies of innovation, coordination, environment-friendliness, openness and sharing spirits. Ni Xiaojian suggested that we should further improve the orientation of Zhejiang Library, and in the meantime, coordinate the relations between internal and external environment, between openness and safety, between the current and the future, so that the book-collection culture could be promoted and the pace to build the Smart Library could be boosted.

Chen Chao, Liu Honghui, Zhou Jianwen, Zhu Hai Kang and other experts and scholars also conducted open-ended discussions around the orientation of the provincial library, the development philosophy, the division of functional zone of the library,the spatial arrangement of new library as well as the internal interactions among other aspects. They all put forward constructive suggestions, which further expanded the directions for the construction and development of the new library of Zhejiang Province, and sound effects were achieved.
