Borrowing Rules

 

(Amended in April 2014)

Article 1   You must apply for a reader’s card and enable borrowing function before borrowing documents, and you must process borrowing procedures in person.

Article 2   Our library lends documents, including books, periodicals, discs, and braille documents; and devices such as listening machines and e-readers.

Article 3   This rule is applicable to the borrowing of books, periodicals, discs, braille documents and listening machines. The borrowing of e-readers is performed in accordance with relevant regulations of E-Reader Borrowing Rules of Zhejiang Library.

Article 4   For reader’s card enabling borrowing function, stipulations about maximum at one time, loan period, renewal and reservation of available documents are as follows:

1. The number of any other types of documents except books available for borrowing will be counted separately.

2. You can borrow up to seven periodicals (which can be extended to 12 periodicals if books, discs and other non-book materials are not borrowed) with a loan period of seven days. You can renew once with a renewal period of seven days. No reservation is available.

3. You can borrow up to two sets of disc (each set can include one disc or more) with a loan period of 20 days; no renewal and reservation is available.

4. Maximum at one time, loan period and renewal of books available for borrowing vary as types pf reader’s cards vary. The details are as follows:

(1) Readers with regular reader’s card can borrow up to 6 Chinese books (which can be extended to 12 books if periodicals, discs and other non-book materials are not borrowed) with a loan period of 30 days. You can renew once with a renewal period of 15 days. You can make a reservation on books with a maximum of one Chinese book.

(2) Readers with reference reader’s card can borrow up to 6 Chinese books (which can be extended to 12 books with a maximum of 2 foreign books if periodicals, discs and other non-book materials are not borrowed) with a loan period of 30 days. You can renew once with a renewal period of 15 days. You can make a reservation on books with a maximum of one Chinese book and one foreign book.

(3) Key readers with regular or reference reader’s card can borrow up to 10 Chinese books or foreign books at a time (which can be extended to 16 books with a maximum of five foreign books if periodicals, discs and other non-book materials are not borrowed) with a loan period of 90 days. You can renew once with a renewal period of 30 days. You can make a reservation on books with a maximum of three books.

(4) Researcher readers (academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and academic leaders) with reference reader’s card can borrow up to 20 Chinese and foreign books (which can be extended to 26 books if periodicals, discs and other non-book materials are not borrowed) with a loan period of 180 days. . You can renew once with a renewal period of 60 days. You can make a reservation on books with a maximum of five books.

(5) Group readers with regular reader’s card can borrow up to 60 Chinese books with a loan period of 180 days. You can renew once with a renewal period of 60 days. You can make a reservation on books with a maximum of five books.

Among them reader’s card types mentioned in (3)(4)(5) are determined with the application proposed by reader or organization, processing of “Front Desk”, the examination of director of Book Document Service Department and the approval curators of libraries, in the principle of comprehensive service and priority services according to reader’s positional title, rank of research project, and other indicators.

Article 5   Documents written in Braille, discs, and listening machine of Zhejiang Province Barrier-Free Service Center for Visually Impaired Persons (hereinafter referred to as the “Center for Visually Impaired Persons”) are available for visually impaired readers with reader’s card with borrowing function. Stipulations about maximum at one time, loan period, renewal and reservation of available documents are as follows:

1. You can borrow up to six documents written in Braille with a loan period of 60 days. Reservation is available while renewal is not.

2. You can borrow up to two sets of discs (each set includes 1 or more discs) with a loan period of 20 days. Reservation is available while renewal is not.

3. You can borrow up to one listening machine with a loan period of 30 days. Reservation is available while renewal is not.

Article 6   Borrowing, returning, renewal and reservation procedures

1. Borrowing: borrow at self-help borrow machine or manual service counter in reading room; the operating hours is the same as opening hours of reading room. Reservation and borrowing of closed-shelf books are processed at front desk on the first floor.

2. Returning:

(1) Books: You can return books in the return machine at North Gate, Shuguang Road Library; or turn books in self-help return machine, front desk, and “Return Box” in Current Newspapers Reading Room of University Road Library; the operating hours is the same as opening hours of service counter and reading room.

(2) Periodicals: You can return periodicals in 24-hour return machine; or return periodicals in self-help return machine and front desk; the operating hours is the same as opening hours of service counter and reading room. You can return periodicals at service counter of Current Newspapers Reading Room on the first floor of Shuguang Road Library between 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

(3) Discs attached to books and supporting books: Return at Front Desk on the first floor.

(4) Return discs (unattached to books), documents written in Braille, and listening machine: at service counter of reading rooms where they are placed.

3. Group borrowing and inter-library borrowing: borrow at the front desk on the first floor

4. Renewal: You can renew via Zhenjiang Library’s website or call 0571-87988998 at any time, or come to front desk on the 1st floor during opening hours.

5. Reservation: You can make a reservation on Zhejiang Library’s website on your own at any time or at front desk on the 1st floor during opening hours. For reserving books written in Braille, discs and listening machine, you can call 0571-87986572 during work hours or at service counter of the “Center for Visually Impaired Persons”.

Article 7   When going through borrowing procedures, please carefully check whether borrowed documents are modified, altered, defaced and damaged, or their bar codes are damaged, and please report it to staff at service counter. Otherwise, readers must make compensation in accordance with Regulations on Violation of the Use of Documents of Zhejiang Library.

Article 8   If documents are overdue, lost or damaged, Violation of Use of the Use of Documents of Zhejiang Library will be applied.

Article 9   These rules will be executed since issued, while former Borrowing Rules of Zhejiang Library will be annulled in the meanwhile. Zhejiang Library reserves the right to interpret these rules.
